Det spelar ingen roll om hela bilden inte är i fokus eftersom det inte finns någonting kvar i den här raden av rucola i alla fall. Några hungriga små insekter har ätit upp all rucola, "spicy mix" -sallader och broccoli, som faktiskt försvann helt.
It doesn't really matter that this photo isn't in focus because there's nothing left in this row of arugula anyway. Some hungry little insects have eaten up all the arugula, "spicy mix" lettuce, and broccoli, which actually completely disappeared.
Här är mina fiender - Herr och Fru Jordloppa. De har fått sitt namn från sina förmåga att hoppa som vanliga loppor. På det här rädisbladet kan man se de lilla prickarna som jordlopporna har gjort. Trots allt klarar rädisorna sig skapligt, men vi kommer tyvärr att gå miste om de goda bladen.
Here are my enemies - Mr. and Mrs. Flea Beetle. They got their name from their ability to jump like normal fleas. On this radish leaf you can see the little holes that the flea beetles make. Despite the invasion, the radishes are growing alright, but we're going to miss out on the tasty leaves.
Men det är inte bara jordloppor som äter mina kålväxter. Jag har också sett massor av rapssugare i trädgården. Det är synd att dessa insekter gör så stora skador för jag tycker att de är ganska vackra.
But it's not just flea beetles that are eating my cabbage-family plants. I have also seen masses of rape bugs (what a lovely name!) in the garden. It's a shame that these insects do so much damage because they are quite beautiful.
Jag hittade ingen annan metod för att skydda växter från dessa hungriga insekter än att täcka fröerna med fiberduk när de sås. Vi får se om det går bättre för rucola nu.
I found no other method for protecting plants from these hungry bugs other than to use a row cover when the seeds are sown. We'll see if it goes better for the arugula now.

Flea beetles are insidious, they got most of our crops last year too (what little we got with the crappy weather). This year seems slightly better, but we have a huge slug problem instead...

It's so depressing to see someone else enjoying all of your crops! I don't mind losing a little to nature, but I want to eat too. The row cover seems to be working though - I can see lots of intact arugula seedlings coming up. :)
We had lots of slugs and snails in my parents garden in Canada. During that battle, the book 50 Ways to Kill a Slug provided some entertainment and ideas.
