Bakom torpet finns det en liten äng som är cirka 2500 kvadratmeter. Köksträdgården ligger där, men det finns säkert plats för några djur. Jag vill gärna ha några höns, men vi behöver någonting lite större som kan äta mycket ogräs.
Behind the torp there is a little meadow that is about 2/3 of an acre. The kitchen garden is there, but there is definitely space for a few animals. I would really like to have some hens, but we need something a little bigger that can eat a lot of weeds.
I somras träffade jag de djuren som jag vill ha - pälsfår. Vi var på semester på Öland när vi såg de här fåren som betade runt en gammalt medeltidsborg. Det svarta fåret i bilden var jättevänligt, precis som en hund. Han (eller hon?) följde oss runt ängen, viftade på svansen och ville klappas. (Tack till Andreas för foton!)
During the summer I met the animals that I want - fur sheep (I couldn't find an English name for them, so a direct translation will have to do.). We were on vacation on Öland when we saw these sheep, which were grazing around an old medieval fort. The black sheep in the picture was really friendly, just like a dog. He (or she?) followed us around the meadow wagging his tail and wanting to be petted. (Thanks to Andreas for the photo!)
Fåren kallas för pälsfår eller Gotlandsfår eftersom rasen kommer från Gotland. Pälsfåret är känt för deras fina, lockiga hår. Tackorna föder två lamm i snitt varje vår. Jag skulle kunna ha en stor hjord om bara några år!
The sheep are called fur sheep or Gotlands sheep because the race comes from Gotland (an island off the south east coast of Sweden). Gotlands sheep are known for their beautiful, curly fur. Ewes give birth to, on average, two lambs every spring. I could have a big herd in only a couple of years!
Men jag får nöja mig med det här ullunderlägget i några år till.
But I will have to make do with this wool hot pad for a few years yet.
